Non-Standard Equipment
PdD CAPS is dedicated to finding innovative solutions to combat the ever-present improvised explosive device (IED) challenge. Non-Standard Equipment provides the defensive technologies and capabilities required to conquer IEDs by neutralizing them before they can be detonated or minimizing the effects of IED blasts on personnel, equipment and facilities.

Jackal YH900G

Jackal is a counter victim-operated Improved Explosive Device (IED) system that transmits a high-power waveform designed to counter the continuing IED threat that coalition forces face in today's combat environment. Jackal is designed to remove the threat of IEDs and roadside bombs against Soldiers, tactical vehicle platforms, and overall mission success. Jackal is designed to pre-detonate passive infrared-triggered (PIR) IEDs at standoff distance, helping to counter the continuing IED threat that coalition forces face in today’s combat environment. Unlike its predecessors, the Jackal is designed to be modular and adaptable to new and emerging IED devices. It can be integrated on multiple tactical Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) platforms, including the RG31MK5 and MaxxPro.

Rhino FA954Q

Rhino is a capability used to defeat passive infrared-triggered (PIR) improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and features a universal bracket that can be mounted on any vehicle platform to provide flexibility to the Soldier.

Entry Control Point (ECP)

This system-of-systems provides a layered approach to control, monitor, and protect access at the Entry Control Points (ECP) to Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) and other U.S. facilities in current theater of operations.

ECP provides effective capabilities to counter Personnel Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (PBIED) and Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIED), along with blast mitigation with standoff protection.

Handheld Detection Systems

Handheld Detection Systems are commercial off the shelf (COTS) products designed for detecting mines and IEDs. They operate well in mineralized soils.
  • Minehound:
    • Handheld mine and IED detection system
    • Locates both metallic and non-metallic explosive hazards.
  • CEIA CMD & Gizmo:
    • Handheld system detects metal and minimum-metal content targets.
  • DSP-27:
    • A passive handheld detector that provides audible indication of target detected, and audio and visual indication of operational status.
  • Strider:
    • Wearable hands-free IED component detection system designed for the dismounted Soldier.

LightGuard Mercury

LightGuard Mercury (LGHg) is a vehicle mounted, short wave infrared (SWIR) multi-spectral optical explosive detection system capable of detecting trace and bulk amounts of explosives at standoff ranges. 14 LGHg Systems and associated spare parts packages are being sustained in a ready-operational state to enable support to future warfighter needs.
