Mission
Achieve safe, economical and environmentally responsible demilitarization of the Nation’s stockpile of obsolete and non-serviceable munitions.
We achieve this mission by:
- Performing end of life cycle demilitarization for all Department of Defense conventional munitions and missiles as the Single Manager for Conventional Ammunition
- Achieving safe, economical and environmentally responsible demilitarization of the Nation’s stockpile of obsolete and non-serviceable munitions
- Supporting DOD mission readiness through freeing up munition storage capacity
- Accomplish munition demilitarization at organic and commercial facilities through closed disposal technologies and open burn/open detonation operations
Capabilities
- Demilitarization, recycle and disposal of conventional munitions, energetics, explosives and missiles
- Provide subject matter expertise to munition developers on design for demilitarization and developing disposal plans for new munitions
- Provide guidance and expertise to allied and partner nations on thermal treatment technologies and disposal of FMS supplied munitions
- Supply recycled components for new ammunition production
- Generate resources through Recovery and Recycling programs (approximately $6M/year)
- Remove outdated and unsafe munition stockpile to reduce logistics burden in storage
- Provide valuable space and volume in earth-cover magazine for new munition storage
