Product Director Special Ammunition and Weapon Systems (SAWS) was established in 2008 by the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology to procure all non-standard ammunition for the U.S. Army and in support of all government agencies. Non-standard ammunition is ammunition that is NOT Type Classified, Materiel Released, in US inventory or Safety Certified. Since its inception PdD SAWS has delivered over 1 Billion rounds through our contract vehicles totaling over $1.8 Billion dollars. PdD SAWS provides an exceptional balance of safe, reliable and effective ammunition and Mortar Weapons Systems to meet the customer needs.
PdD SAWS oversees the acquisition of over 400 munitions and Mortar weapons to include but not limited to: small, medium and large caliber ammunition, Rocket Propelled Grenades, Hand Grenades, Aviation rockets, flares, Anti-Tank Guided Missiles and Inert items. These items are provided to a host of customers including the DoD, other USG agencies and our coalition partners throughout the world. The well understood and proven, legacy design of SAWS ammunition lends itself to ease of manufacture. This results in low cost, high volume production, resulting in ammunition that is produced at a fraction of the cost of conventional ammunition. SAWS provides a tremendous value to the tax payer, while also strengthening the economic and diplomatic bonds with the partner nations who manufacture these items. For our coalition partners, SAWS provides a highly effective training alternative since they are already familiar with the legacy systems, thereby decreasing the time to make them into an effective fighting force. The SAWS division provides an exceptional balance of safe, reliable and effective ammunition and Mortar Weapons Systems and utilizes the diversity of the Eastern European low cost production base, to provide a surge capacity as it is needed.
